Music

It’s been a while…

Went to my very first Singapore Air Show. Apart from the insane heat, it was pretty damn cool. The air display (is that what its called?!) was incredibly awesome, and I got to hang with my cousin’s hubby who’s part of the Smokey Bandits aka the Malaysian Royal Air Force’s fighter jet team.

Went on my first shoot of the year! Once again it was for Cbeebies, and we shot at a Ukulele shop in Little India and at Republic Polytechnic.

Watermelon ukulele anyone?

Portrait of my by one of the kids, who was only 6. Too cute!

Yummy Wan Ton noodle soup from Kopi Tiam at Swissotel. So good!

HEAVENLY tandoori chicken platter from Zaffron Kitchen in Katong. Need to head back there soon for more noms.

Garlic naan that became part of the best leftover work lunch (along with butter chicken) I’ve ever had.

My sneaky supper companion, Frankie.

Hiiiii.

Friendly Fires live at Avalon.

The view from just behind the sound crew.

Love the packaging.

Questionable toiletries. Only in Singapore…. and maybe Japan.

Weekend cooking adventures with Mama Monkman. This was us experimenting with seafood Zuppa.

Made couscous with olives, tomatoes and mushrooms for work lunch and coupled it with the best chicken wing I’ve ever had (from Golden Mile Complex).

Carrot cake cupcake!

The shortest pair of hot pants ever.

Ha! Love this so much.

My good friend Mia got married on Sunday. First one to go! I wonder who’s next….

Aww… Charlie, you are too adorable.

First saw Charlieissocoollike on a SORTED video – he was in the amazing cheese-stuffed burger which you can watch HERE. He posted this song a few days ago, and it’s really something quite special. Has a lot of meaning for me I guess.

Charlie McDonnell, you can serenade me anytime.

I am up early this Sunday morning (time on my laptop reads: 7.40am) and I’ve been spending a good part of the last hour cleaning up my Macbook Pro. And while cleaning I came across a silly video I did while fooling around with the Cassius – I Love U So app I used to have on my iPhone.

it’s actually very addictive….

(PSST don’t mind the messy hair and PJs)

…And here’s the ORIGINAL video in all it’s glory:

Sorry, this is quite a useless blog post. Anyway, Fish N Chips later for me! *rubs belly*

Hiiiiiiya. It’s me, I’m back! I’m in a good mood so I’m back to do a lil bit of updating and spring cleaning on this wordpress of mine. Lots has happened in the past month!

I shall tell my story through my Instagram photos

Sooooo. My life has usually revolved around the following: WORK + EAT + SLEEP.Been as busy as a bee!

Love my “escape” time though… Office rooftop – Sunny. Not-so humid (thank goodness). Breezy. Basically perfection!

I could stay up here forever

This honestly deserves a whole post on its own but…. I GOT TO SEE JAMIE WOON LIVE. Oh. My. Lordy. It was amazing.

He played pretty much every song on his album “Mirrorwriting”, and I was the (slightly drunk) fool at the front singing along to every song. He brought Royce Wood Jr along with him too which was a very pleasant surprise (I later spoke to Royce and exclaimed “HEEEY I DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE COMING TONIGHT! I LOVE YOUR REMIX OF HIS (JAMIE) SONG LADY LUCK!!!”)

Managed to grab Jamie for a photo op after his gig. “You were awesome! Massive massive fan” I told him. Wanted to talk more but Ikonika started spinning and it was too loud to say anything else.
By luck I saw him outside the event venue (he played at Heineken Green Room) and I plucked up the courage to talk to him. All I can say is… what a lovely fella. Chatted with him about pretty much everything but his music… food, Singapore/Malaysia, being Eurasian, work (it never leaves me!). So down-to-earth. Think I fell even more in love with him after that (Ha!).I hope he comes back soon.

Halloween also happened! Went as a mime this year.

Also celebrated Halloween in the office.

Headed over to the Colbar a week or so ago for a memorial for a very close family friend. Met up with people I haven’t seen since I was about 6/7 years old.

I love the Colbar. And Wessex Estate in general. And the Wessex Estate gang. I spent the first 6-7 years of my life there, and it just feels good to go back. Knowing that my dad wasnt forgotten made me feel all warm and fuzzy as well. Deffo lots of love that night.

My daddy-o. Check out that awesome ‘stache!

It’s been a while since I last updated. Life’s been… busy. Interesting busy, I guess. Good thing is I don’t feel like I’m in such a rut anymore, which is refreshingly nice.

Spent my last week recovering from a nasty flu. Note to self: never exercise when you’re not full recovered. Went for boxing class last Thursday and I made myself even more ill. Lesson learnt, Monkman!

MORNING! Another Monday morning, another load of work to sort out. Same shit different day? Meh.

So many things are changing in my life right now. New people coming in, the old ones leaving. “The times they are a-changin,” as Bob Dylan would say. Only wish I didn’t feel I was being left behind all the time. I feel very… stuck. Stuck in the middle.

Anyhoo… tune of the day. MSTRKRFT – Bounce (OH SNAP!! Bootleg Vocal Remix).

And another, for extras. Boys Noize – Jeffer.

In the suburbs I
I learned to drive
And you told me we’d never survive
Grab your mother’s keys we’re leavin’

You always seemed so sure
That one day we’d be fighting
A suburban war
your part of town against mine
I saw you standing on the opposite shore

But by the time the first bombs fell
We were already bored
We were already, already bored

Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m movin’ past the feeling
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m movin’ past the feeling again

Kids wanna be so hard
But in my dreams we’re still screamin’ and runnin’ through the yard
And all of the walls that they built in the seventies finally fall
And all of the houses they built in the seventies finally fall
Meant nothin’ at all
Meant nothin’ at all
It meant nothin

Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m movin’ past the feeling
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m movin’ past the feeling and into the night

So can you understand?
Why I want a daughter while I’m still young
I wanna hold her hand
And show her some beauty
Before this damage is done

But if it’s too much to ask, it’s too much to ask
Then send me a son

Under the overpass
In the parking lot we’re still waiting
It’s already passed
So move your feet from hot pavement and into the grass
Cause it’s already passed
It’s already, already passed!

Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m movin’ past the feeling
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m movin’ past the feeling again

I’m movin’ past the feeling
I’m movin’ past the feeling

In my dreams we’re still screamin’
We’re still screamin’
We’re still screamin’

As much as I love the Arcade Fire original, this cover by Mr Little Jeans blows my mind. Love it.

Gotta re-re-wind back 10 years for this Music Monday! Spent my weekend listening to super old skool stuff. London style. Grime, garage, jungle… you get me?

Here are some of my all time favourites

So Solid Crew – 21 Seconds
One of the highlights of my weekend was proudly rapping the whole song. Yes I know all the lyrics #awesome

Craig David ft Artful Dodger – Re-Rewind

Craig David – Rendezvous

Oxide & Neutrino – Bound 4 Da Reload

Wake up you sleepy head
Put on some clothes, shake up your bed
Put another log on the fire for me
I’ve made some breakfast and coffee
I look out my window what do I see
A crack in the sky and a hand reaching down to me
All the nightmares came today
And it looks as though they’re here to stay

What are we coming to
No room for me, no fun for you
I think about a world to come
Where the books were found by the Golden ones
Written in pain, written in awe
By a puzzled man who questioned
What we came here for
All the strangers came today
And it looks as though they’re here to stay

Oh You Pretty Things (Oh You Pretty Things)
Don’t you know you’re driving your
Mamas and Papas insane
Oh You Pretty Things (Oh You Pretty Things)
Don’t you know you’re driving your
Mamas and Papas insane
Let me make it plain
You gotta make way for the Homo Superior
